Our State House operative Kissy Kissy Mansa has laid hands on the 8.4Milliion Dalasis check in two installments that the British charity, Action Aid The Gambia gave to Hon. Suku Singhateh. Suku Who?
Hon. Suku Singhateh’s Viciousness Under The
Microscope
As Parliamentary Chasms Intensify, Millions of farmers’ Dalasis in Limbo
By Alpha Sanyang in Banjul & Ebrima G. Sankareh, Raleigh NC
Unimpeachable sources reaching The Gambia Echo accuse Honourable Suku Singhateh as the force behind the rubble that is currently causing a stir at the National Assembly. The kleptocratic Suku is allegedly spearheading a campaign with an insignificant clique of disgruntled ruling party lawmakers, apparently, to bring in his relative Edward David Singhateh, the disgraced former Vice Chairman and megalomaniac state Minister of several Cabinet posts, as Speaker.

Exposition on Tyranny: President Jammeh & The Gambian Situation
By **Yadicon Charreh
“Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make ye free” John 8:32
These days, misconception and ignorance are rampant within the Gambian community, both at home and abroad. Since President Yahya Jammeh came to power much has been said and written about the state of The Gambia and the presidency, and the messages that come from Gambians abroad are, for the most part, different from those that come from Gambians at home.

Dida Halake & The Gambia Press Union–Advice to a Brother
By Demba A. Jawo
Personally, I have never formally met Dida Halake, the Daily Observer’s Managing Director/Editor-In-Chief, but I have long been enjoying reading his analysis. However, even though I have not been in agreement with most of his points of view on a number of issues he writes about, I have always respected his absolute right to express those points of view. When he was appointed Managing Director/Editor-In-Chief of the Daily Observer, I thought with his maturity and exposure, he was going to bring some sanity in its management-vis-à-vis its negative, poor image.

Barely three hours after our bombshell on the sacking of three Cabinet Ministers by Gambian President Yahya Jammeh than news of damning allegations began to trickle in. While reasons for the high profile sacking of Jammeh’s spokesperson and Secretary of State for Information, Communication and Technology Nenneh Macdoul-Gaye remain sketchy; our most credible and phenomenally competent sources at the President’s office alleged that her sacking centers on a One Million Dalasi (D1, 000, 000) phone card fraud

Fatou-Jaw Manneh’s Case in Chaos
By Ebrima G. Sankareh, Editor-In-Chief
After one year of manifest judicial incompetence, lacklustre juridical arguments over jurisdiction and undue arm-twisting from the powers that be; US- based-Gambian journalist Fatou Jaw Manneh returned to the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court on Monday, March 17, 2008 with hopeful anticipation that her libel case was going to proceed. When the case was called and defense attorney Lamin Jobarteh and client stood up, state prosecutor Marley Woods rose and shocked the jam-packed courtroom that Ms. Fatou Jaw-Manneh’s case file was missing...

President Yahya Jammeh Claims Demons At War
--One Demon on the Loose, Mediation Efforts Afoot
By Alfa Sanyang
In what many see as a precipice towards lunacy, President Yahya Jammeh has once again stunned the nation by a recent announcement that his demons are currently entangled in a serious clash. The announcement over Gambian national television punctuates the errant leader’s latest trend of using precious airtime for baseless claims of mystery, and false oracular bravado; a pathetic sequel to his cruel hoax of a HIV/Aids cure.

Afro-Pessimism
By **Professor Floyd W. Hayes, III, Ph.D.
The Johns Hopkins University
Senior Lecturer, Department of Political Science
I recall some years ago before he died, Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael) saying that until the continent of Africa was free, Black people nowhere would be free. Africa, like many Blacks in the African Diaspora, remains the captive of external forces. Yet, like the figures of Ward Connerly, Clarence Thomas, or Condoleeza Rice, a certain amount of collusion takes place. Although national flags fly over the capitals of every African nation, suggesting independence and popular freedom, there is much unfreedom, chaos, and despair among the people.

Breaking News: Momodou Jallow Dies, Allegations of Torture Linger
By Ebrima G. Sankareh, Editor-In-Chief
It is with profound shock and sorrow that we report the death of Momodou Jallow (a.k.a Ndotch) who reportedly died yesterday after a long illness. Jallow, 47, was a Gambia Government driver at the Department of Medical and Health Services who gained notoriety after his fierce criticism of the Jammeh dictatorship in numerous political rallies in the prelude to the 2001 presidential and parliamentary elections. His withering criticism of the regime reached fever pitch after his colleague, Ousman Ceesay also a driver; was gunned down by a presidential guard officer at the Tallinding Market during a melee between opposition UDP supporters and the regime’s militants.

Fatou Jaw-Manneh’s Lugubrious Trial- Editorial
By Mathew K. Jallow, Associate Editor
If ever there is a case of abuse of power and the showcasing of a judiciary system gone awry, the case of Fatou Jaw-Manneh is a clear example. Unlike the trials of Mayor Pa Sallah Jeng and many others, which were deliberately drawn out over a long period of time in order to inflict maximum pain and suffering on the victims, Fatou Jaw-Manneh’s case symbolizes all that is wrong with our judiciary system.

Regime Change: Gambia’s Major Challenge
By Mathew K. Jallow, Associate Editor
After a three-week hiatus from the Internet, the news from The Gambia continues to be as depressing as ever. It appears as if our country has lost the ability to generate the kinds of news that can put a smile on our individual faces. The newspapers at home are replete with court cases brought and litigated by the regime, and the number of Gambians being arrested and tried on frivolous charges continues to grow.

Prime Time With AJJ (Political Parody @ GRTS)
By Abdoulie Jallow (Bamba Laye)
Some day in New Gambia at the GRTS studios…
Dibba: HE Alhaji Dr. MMB AJJ Jumbay, I want to thank you for joining us today.
Few years ago you sat with me and ranted about your past struggle with “jamba” or “taye”, women and the white foam on the sides of your mouth (ratatoy). But this week you did something even more courageous. You stood right up before thousands of Gambians and you openly confessed that you're "a gifted spiritual murderer."

BY TIJAN NIMAGA, Bronx New York
On the 20th April 2000, the Heads of State of Six West African countries came together and made a decision to establish a second monetary zone, known as the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ). The countries involved in this unique economic idea were The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, and the main objective of this monetary proposal was to create a new single and stable currency. If the new currency came into circulation it would create economic relief for local

PDOIS’ Desk Officer Comments On Ebou Jallow’s Posting
Dear Editors:
I would like to make a comment on Ebou Jallow’s posting even though he did not mention any point regarding my analysis. First and foremost, Gambians in general and Americo-Gambians in particular should bear in mind that the central point is how to put an end to poverty and the centralisation of power in the hands of the executive in The Gambia.

Sir Jackal is A Good Citizen
Editor:
It is rare for me to write in praise of any of these ex-solders from The Gambia who now live abroad; enjoying all the freedom and luxury that most of them denied their fellow citizens when they were working with Yahya Jammeh. Infact, my argument has been that if they work with the Jammeh government at any point and fall out with him, we (Gambians abroad) should work together to make sure that none of them get asylum abroad. Stands like that I think will put those who are serving under Jammeh now to think twice.

Dr Fox says...

“Some enter journalism only to acquire Western visas. Some enter to ultimately apply for asylum. Some enter because of the passion for the profession and the desire to improve the lot of our people. Some enter only for fame and asylum and once they get their status adjusted, they abandon the profession, visiting The Gambia and dining with the devil. Why would someone who everyone knows was granted political asylum by the United States Immigration, have the audacity to write to the press, flatly denying this fact and going to the extent of insulting his peers? We have the evidence and may publish it at the right time!!”
