Our “Gambian Farmer” with twenty-plus years of hands on experience has not answered my key question. Where is the money for wholesale crop subsidies in The Gambia coming from? Our “farmer” may be that proverbial farmer from Niamina Jareng that has made so much headway in rice production that he can afford annual trips to the UK to wine and dine at the Sherlock Holmes Hotel.

Libya’s dictator, Momar Ghaddafi, is in town, and up in Kanilai Village, nearly hundred miles south of the capital Banjul, cattle are slaughtered for the feast of a lifetime. But the feast will not be complete without mixing Bakau in the equation. As various editorialists and commentators throughout Africa have analyzed the substance of US President Barack Obama’s Accra policy statement on Africa on July 12 wasn’t new.
