Ambassador Gibril Joof in car crash

Chauffeur suffers dislocation of shoulder

         By Ebrima G. Sankareh, Editor-In-Chief

According to highly placed sources at State House, His Excellency Gibril Joof, The Gambia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Senegal was involved in a car crash on the road to Touba, Senegal. Joof, who was named US-Ambassador designate last week, is said to be in good spirit at the Ambassador’s residence in Pointe E, Dakar. The envoy was reportedly shaken and complaints of a headache and pains around the waist. His chauffeur, one Mr. N’get, reportedly suffers a dislocation of the shoulder.

According to our competent sources, the accident happened after the chauffer skillfully maneuvered his way to avert a potentially dangerous head-on collision. As he veered into the bushes, the diplomatic car reportedly somersaulted leaving the chauffeur with a bruised body and dislocated shoulder.

Sambou and Saho sacked

In another twist, our sources report that President Jammeh is very angry at erstwhile ministers, Ismaila Sambou and Antouman Saho as well as Banjul’s Imam Ratib, Cherno Kah. The three led a powerful Gambian delegation to deliver to the Gand Marabout of Touba, numerous gifts, food items and undisclosed cash donations for the annual Magal.

Reveal our sources; President Jammeh’s marabout in Banjul had predicted the downfall of President Wade’s government if the presidential delegation comprising the trio had distributed the charity in the prescribed proportion but the Ministers and Imam allegedly acted otherwise. This, report our State House sources, is what angered Jammeh to sack Ismaila Sambou and Antouman Saho even while Senegalese TV was showing live images of the duo, praising Jammeh. According to these sources, Jammeh has even contemplated asking the delegation to refund him his monies or risk the consequences. An angry Jammeh is reported to have suggested that Imam Kah should consider moving to Medina Serign Mass because he has betrayed him seriously. Whether this constitutes Jammeh’s veiled threats or another incident of his metastasizing madness remains to be seen.

For now though, Jammeh who seriously believes in occult science, is reportedly bragging that Gibril Joof is a victim of his own stubbornness for failing to deliver the charity for the Grand Magal as prescribed. However, according to another source, Jammeh’s marabout had predicted that if conducted to perfection, one of the Embassy staff especially Joof, may perish before Abdoulaye Wade’s own demise. In a regime where the leader believes in exorcising the nation of witches and devils, only God really knows what works in Jammeh’s head.
