"Yahya Jammeh Manipulates Gambia's Foreign Exchange"

  Dear Editor:

The manipulation of the exchange rate regime in The Gambia by Jammeh has been standard operating procedure of this illegal regime since they seized power in 1994.  They manipulate fiscal and monetary data and thus the output of your analysis will always be 'suspect'.  Interestingly, the AFPRC and the APRC governments refrained from doctoring the figures until fiscal year 2000/2001 and therefore, it was less hazardous prior to this date to analyze and interpret the data.

After 2000/2001 however, and because of the deliberate and calculated effort of Jammeh and his collaborators at the Department of State for Finance and the Central Bank, the task of making sense of the numbers has become a real challenge for all those whose business it is to analyze monetary and fiscal data including the respected institutions of the Breton Woods Group, AFDB and others in the economic development business.

In the coming days, I will attempt to make sense of the current economic and financial jig saw created by Yahya Jammeh and provide to your readership the naked truth about the current situation.

Sincerely,

A Concerned Economist,

The Quadrangle, Banjul.
