The Gambia Echo regrets to announce that the lead story published here a while ago that the ECOWAS, UN and AU were committed to prevent asset/property seizures of The Gambia’s exiled despot, Yaya Jammeh, and immunizes him and members of regime from potential prosecution, is entirely false and without any legal basis.
Senegalese Foreign minister Mankeur Ndiaye just reacted to the document and said it’s all written by the former President and therefore, a figment of his own imagination. Again, the entire document is bogus and Yaya Jammeh alone drafted it, in consultation with his legal team from Banjul, but ECOWAS, UN or AU are not signatories to the paper and it is therefore, not binding.
While that is exactly what he wanted, it was flatly rejected and the document should be seen as a worthless paper circulated to media houses to create confusion. A visibly infuriated Mankeur Njie announced on Senegalese TV a few minutes ago.
Consistent with journlistic ethics, we regret ever publishing the story and apologise to all our readership for the concerns it may have ignited.
