Exactly as reported here, barely two weeks ago, on February 10, 217, (In Latest Cabinet Pick, Barrow to Name Fatoumata Jallow Tambajang …) President Adama Barrow acting under the relevant sections of the Gambian Constitution has today, confirmed the appointment of Fatoumata Jallow Tambajang as Minister of Women’s Affairs overseeing the Portfolio of the Vice Presidency. The appointment announced on Radio Gambia moments ago, also confirmed our earlier report that Bai Lamin Jobe, is Minister of Works & Infrastructure.
The news broadcast also announced the appointment of veteran journalist and media activist, Demba Ali Jawo as Minister of Information & Communication. An astute member and former President of The Gambia Press Union, D. A. Jawo as he is affectionately called, brings to the seat decades of newspaper journalism experience. Until his appointment, he was with the Africa Press Agency in Dakar, Senegal.
Mrs. Claudiana Ayo Cole is the new Minister of Basic & Secondary Education and Mrs. Saffie Lowe Ceesay is the new Minister of Health & Social Welfare.
Until her appopintment as Basic Education Minister, Mrs. Cole was Regional Education Director for Region 1 and had for many years served as Director for Region 6 in The Gambia’s Upper River Region. A career schooolteacher and St. Joseph’s High School alumna :Class of 1976, Mrs. Cole holds a Master’s degree in Education from the United Kingdom.
Acting under the same constitutional provisions, President Adama Barrow also appointed Badara Alieu Joof as his new Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science & Technology. Formally a Qualified Teacher from the Yundum Teachers’ College, B. A. Joof holds a B.Ed. (Hons.) degree in English Education from Bristol University, England, a Master of Arts degree in English Language & Literature from London University, UK, and an Master of Science degree in Development Economics from Bath University, also in the UK.
Formerly an English Language & Literature lecturer at The Gambia college and Head of Department of Languages & Literature at Nusrat High School, Joof had served as Permanent Secretary for many years mostly at the Ministry of Education. He is currently Education Specialist with the World Bank responsible for West And Central Africa.
